Prayerfully hand-crafted from locally sourced beef and buffalo fat, Buffalo Balm is the ultimate in luxury animal-based moisturizer. Inspired by indigenous skin care practices and infused with reverence for the wisdom of the Ancestors, this Balm is both a healing elixir and a nod to the thirst for reintegration of traditional life-ways.

Many moons in the making, I hand-render this balm in a gentle, hard-earned process developed over years of trial and error. This process leaves the tallow odorless while preserving its integrity and healing power.

I then infused it with wild-crafted medicinal plants of my ancestral home, the desert Southwest. Plants like Juniper, Sage, and Pinon, which serve as guardians, lovers, and healers in the unfolding saga of this enchanted and holy landscape.

I use a cold-infusion process inspired by pre-industrial perfumery called “enfleurage”, once more invoking the slow-wisdom and slow-craft of a time without machines and conveyor belts and factories. A time when things were carefully, powerfully, and beautifully made and when craftsmanship was more than anything else a partnership and unfolding of the beauty and perfection of Nature, the all-wise and consummate Craftswoman.

Unlike the distillation process used to make essential oils, cold infusion almost perfectly preserves the plant’s native fragrance, so that opening a jar of Buffalo Balm is like standing on a sage-strewn Mesa in the midst of a desert rain, or like roving amongst Juniper-crusted foothills just after sunset.

After infusion, I bless the balm and send it prayerfully into the world. My prayer is this. That I might deliver the transformative power of the Land, of her fruit, her fat, and her wild-teeming-life to you. That this balm might be a healing for your hands, heart, and spirit. That this balm might be a healing to a dark and broken world, a balm of reconnection with its own wild heart.
